Heraklion Port

The development of the port of Heraklion followed the general development of the ports with some differences that were imposed by political and military correlations and influences. The result of the interest was shown because of the privileged geographic placement of Crete and the special place of Heraklion on the island. Crete is situated in the center of the eastern part of the Mediterranean basin, on the section of the international navigational line Gibraltar-Suez-Black Sea-Mediterranean. That’s the reason why the biggest part of financial and all of transportation activities, there, have developed.
