Kalithea - Chalkidiki

Chalkidiki in northern Greece, close to the city of Thessaloniki, is made up of three "finger-like" peninsulas jutting into the Aegean Sea. There are many summer resorts on the beaches of all three "fingers" where many minor towns and villages are located. It has a mild Mediterranean climate with limited rainfall.
The western-most peninsula, Kassandra, is the busiest and the most visited, due to its proximity to Thessaloniki. Here, a good range of accommodation, from vast, modern five-star hotel complexes to basic rooms-to-let, overlook fine, white sand beaches backed by pine trees. The largest resorts, Kalithea, Pefkohori and Chanioti (all on the east coast), attract those on all-inclusive package deals.
Chalkidiki is gifted with aquamarine water and fine sandy beaches, over 40 of which have been awarded the Blue Flag for cleanliness and are perfect for children.
The liveliest resorts of Kalithea, Pefkohri and Chanioti, all of which are on Kassandra, offer a good choice of pubs, cafes and mainstream dance clubs. Elsewhere, nightlife is low-key, and limited to winning, dinning and people watching!
Kalithea is situated 51 klm south of Polygyros, about 90 klm from Thessaloniki and currently with some 500 inhabitants, the community was established in 1922 with the influx of refugees from Asia Minor. It has splendid beaches and great archaeological discoveries. Highlights include the remains of the Doric sanctuary to Zeus Amon, the sanctuary to Dionysus and the Nymphs, and the small chapel of Aghios Panteleimon with interesting murals.
It is a modern commercial and cosmopolitan resort that boasts large hotel complexes and traditional lodgings. Featuring all the necessary installations required for thoroughly enjoyable and entertaining holidays, and blessed by its natural and historic heritage, Kalithea satisfies even the most discerning visitor and has a spectacular night-life to prove it.
Ideally situated, Kalithea is without a doubt the most suitable base for day-trips throughout the entire peninsula, particularly for those wishing to visit the area’s impressive archaeological and historic sights, experience the lifestyle in some of its traditional and remote villages, and witness some of the country’s leading timeless destinations.
