Maleme

The picturesque village of Maleme, one of Platanias region's most beautiful villages, is a mere 20 minute drive from the city of Chania on the road to Kissamos. Maleme is also famous for historical reasons as it was the location that the most important part of the famous battle of Crete in the Second World War took place. Maleme is a large village with many choices of tavernas and quality shops. It has kept its original Cretan flavour unspoilt from the massive tourist trade. Its beach with its small pebbles and crystal clear waters, has justly gained the award of the blue flag. It has many small and modern hotels as well as the taverns serving fresh fish and delicious Greek cuisine.
