Stavromenos

Geropotamos is the largest area of the  three municipalities of the former province Mylopotamos, combining mountains to the sea areas in harmony.  The main beaches of the municipality are located on the northern road of the county. One of the most important historical monument of Geropotamos is - perhaps - the Cave of Melidoni . Located in the village of the municipality was the place of worship of giant Talos in prehistoric times. In recent history associated with the death of 370 Christian inhabitants of the village in January 1824. Stavromenos is one of the numerous villages belonging to Geropotamos.

Stavromenos in Rethymno is a small settlement of the sandy beach of Rethymno, 11km away from Rethymno downtown.
Stavromenos has a fully organized beach ideal for families and those who wish to spend relaxing vacation away from the tourist resorts. The sea turtles "Caretta Caretta" visit Stavromenos beach at nights during their nesting season between May and September. There are more excellent sandy beaches between Stavromenos and the town of Rethymnon.
