Stavros

Stavros is a small village which located 14km from Chania, at the peninsula of Akrotiri, in a beautiful bay. It is well-known for its sandy beach with the clean, blue sea. Sometimes the sandy beach may be crowded but even like that it is a fine place to visit for a few hours. There are umbrellas and sunbeds and is surrounded by few tavernas, coffee shops, rooms for rent and hotels. Stavros had been used as the location for the film “Zorbas the Greek” as it represented the archetypal sleepy fishing village. Facing the mountain where Zorbas of Kakogiannis was filmed. Everyone remembers the scene where Anthony Queen, interpreting the Kazantzakis hero, was dancing the famous Greek dance “Syrtaki”. The village is 35 minutes from the port of Souda and 25 minutes far from the international airport of Chania with frequent (six times per day) transportation connection.
